NEC to okay budget proposals

Published June 8, 2002

ISLAMABAD, June 7: The National Economic Council (NEC) is meeting here on Saturday to discuss and approve broad budgetary proposals for the year 2002-2003, including new Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).

The NEC — the highest body on economic decision-making — will be presided over by President Gen Pervez Mushsrraf. All the four governors, federal ministers, provincial finance and planning ministers, chief secretaries and senior federal and provincial officials will participate in the meeting.

Official sources said that the NEC was likely to approve Rs140 billion new PSDP as recommended by the Annual Plan Coordination Committee last month.

The meeting, they said, would also review Rs66.3 billion development projects approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council for the current financial year.
