PESHAWAR, June 7: The NWFP governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has said, representation to various tribesmen would be ensured at every tier of the local government system proposed for the tribal areas.

In the new system, he added, special seats have been reserved for elders, notables, and women to make it more representative and democratic.

He was talking during the second phase of the presentations made at Governor’s House here on Friday morning, wherein, the governor was briefed on the delimitation plan of union councils in the remaining three tribal agencies, and four FRs.

The political agents of Kurram Agency, North and South Waziristan Agencies, assistant political agents of Tank, Lakki, Bannu, and D.I.Khan Frontier Regions, through separate representations highlighted the relevant details.

The governor said that under the new scheme of things, law and order committees would be constituted comprising agency Nazim and heads of law enforcement agencies.

Regarding the delimitation proposals, the governor laid emphasis on following the criteria and guiding principles, saying that it has to be ensured that all the tribes and sub- tribes get due representation particularly in the union councils.

For this purpose, he added, the respective union council, if need be, may be divided into multi-wards.

The meeting also discussed problems pertaining to the delimitation process.

It was stated during the meeting that the delimitation proposals would be made public when finalized.

The meeting was attended by Athar Minallah, minister for local government, chief secretary, and administrative secretaries of home and local government departments, besides, the political agents and assistant political agents of the respective agencies.
