Misuse of green belts criticized

By Our Reporter

PESHAWAR, June 6: The Central Information Secretary of Awami National Party (ANP) Haji Adeel has asked the city district government to restore green belt areas and establish Compress Natural Gas (CNG) stations in the provincial metropolis to combat environmental pollution.

In a press release issued here on Thursday Haji Adeel said that Peshawar was among the polluted cities of the country, and the increase in encroachments was also effecting the environment. He said that some government and semi-governmental organizations had illegally occupied the city’s green belts and have constructed gas stations and shops on them.

He criticized the city district government for allowing the use of public parks and places for holding melas and industrial exhibitions. The historic Jinnah Park and Wazir Bagh are two such examples of shortsightedness, he said.
