KARACHI, June 6: Justice Shabbir Ahmed, the administrative judge of anti- terrorism courts for Karachi division, remanded on Thursday two activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) in police custody till June 9.
An SI of the New Karachi police produced the accused, Hafiz Mehmood Ahmed and Syed Hanif Ahmed, in the court with remand request.
According to the remand papers, the accused were arrested on information provided by an informer in sector 5-J in New Karachi while distributing audio and video cassettes to young men.
An assistant advocate-general, Sindh, appearing for the state, submitted that remand was required for interrogation of the accused and recovery of more material, which was objectionable.
The judge, after hearing the AAG, remanded them in police custody till June 9 and fixed June 10 as the next date of hearing.
The judge also issued notice to the AAG on an application filed by mother of Ataullah Shaikh.
The applicant alleged that her son was in police custody in a triple-murder case and was being tortured. He needed medical attention which was being denied, she submitted while apprehending threat to the life of her son.
The AJ put AAG Sindh Habib Ahmed on notice for June 8.
Ataullah was booked by the Al-Falah police in the murder case of Syed Zafar Mehdi, Mir Zaman and Mukhtar Ahmed who were killed by unidentified men on May 6.
Akram Lahori, Asif alias Choto, Anwer and Nisar, alleged to be terrorists of the SSP, were shown as absconders in the case.—APP
