Cotton output up by 1.25pc


KARACHI, June 6: The cotton production has increased by 1.25 per cent to more than 10.291 million bales till June 1, 2002, says a fortnightly report of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Thursday.

During the same period last year the country produced 10.187 million cotton bales.

Cotton arrival has depicted a rise of 8.10 per cent or 176,459 bales in Sindh but recorded a decline of 0.62 per cent or 49,600 bales in Punjab.

Punjab produced 7.959 million bales while Sindh produced more than 2.355 million bales.

Of the total, textile mills purchased more than 9.356 million bales from ginners, while Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) procured 245,462 bales and private sector exporters bought 106,842 bales.

The total unsold stock at the ginneries has been estimated at more than 604,956 million bales.—APP
