Irish fans celebrate

DUBLIN, June 5: Relieved and invigorated Irish soccer fans scrapped plans to go back to the office on Wednesday after a last-minute equaliser kept their World Cup hopes alive.

Robbie Keane’s goal against Germany in the dying seconds of injury time triggered chaos in pubs and sitting rooms across the country as fans, previously resigned to defeat, roared and punched the air in pure delight.

In Scruffy Murphy’s pub in Dublin, elated fans wiped their brows in relief and ordered rounds of celebratory drinks after a nail-biting match involving several near-misses for the Irish.—Reuters
