GILGIT, June 5: The Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan (ADBP) has announced a relief package for the people of the drought-hit areas of Northern Areas.

According to sources, the ADBP would write off loans of upto Rs25,000, while the borrowers of Rs100,000 or bigger amounts would be exempted from the interest in the drought-affected areas.

RENAMING K-2: The Northern Areas Legislative Council (NALC), at the second meeting of its 13th session on Tuesday, initiated a debate on renaming K-2, the world’s second highest peak.

Most of the NALC members agreed to rename the summit “Chogri” instead of “Dapsang” proposed by some other members.

However, some members proposed that a committee be constituted to rename the peak. The council eventually decided to refer the matter to the cabinet. The Northern Areas deputy chief executive has been entrusted with the responsibility of negotiating with the cabinet.
