SC suspends termination order of 98 workers

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 4: The Supreme Court suspended on Tuesday the Sui Southern Gas Company order of terminating services of 98 employees who were recruited in 1994/95.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justice Munir A. Sheikh, Justice Qazi Mohammad Farooq and Justice Fakeer Mohammad Khokhar, after hearing the counsel of petitioners, Mohammad Akram Sheikh, suspended the order of termination.

The court remanded the case to the Federal Service Tribunal to decide the case within three months.

The petitioners were recruited in 1994/95 as management trainees and engineer trainees. They remained in service but their appointment was not confirmed.

The petitioners approached the Service Tribunal, arguing that they had been in the service for many years and the Sui Southern Gas Company should be ordered to confirm their appointment. The FST did not accept their plea.

After the dismissal of their plea by the FST, the management of the Sui Southern Gas Company terminated their services on May 2, 2202. The Sui Southern Gas Company was represented by Barrister Jamil.
