GUJRANWALA, June 4: Two condemned prisoners were pardoned on Tuesday by the family of the victims.
Hadait Masih and Ashiq Masih killed one Muhammad Ashraf and injured his wife Azra during a robbery bid in Bhoma Bhath village on September 24, 1993. A sessions court sentenced them to death which was upheld by the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The president also rejected their clemency pleas.
Their black warrants were issued and they were to be hanged on June 6.
gangs busted: Gakkhar and Aroop police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested in separate raids over a dozen members of two dacoits’ gangs with cash and valuables.
Reports said the Gakkhar police, on a tip-off, raided a hideout on the Pirkot Road and arrested half a dozen dacoits when they were distributing the looted goods.
The police claimed they had recovered cash, gold ornaments and valuables besides illicit arms from their possession.
The Aroop police arrested some half a dozen dacoits involved in dozens of incidents of plundering and other heinous crime.
The police claimed the gang confessed during interrogation to have committed the crimes.
A case has been registered.
LOOTED: Five robbers on Tuesday looted cash, gold ornaments and electronic goods worth Rs1 million from one Shaikh Abid Husain’s house in Qila Deedar Singh.
Police have registered a case.
CRUSHED: A minor boy was crushed by a speeding car on the GT Road while his mother and brother sustained injuries on Tuesday.
Suleman, 6, was crossing a road along with his mother Rani and brother Danish when the accident took place. He died on the spot.
The injured were rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Police have registered a case against car driver Muhammad Aslam.
DEATH SENTENCE: A district and sessions judge handed down death sentence to two brothers in a murder case.
Convicts Muhammad Javed and Zulfiqar Ali killed one Riffat suspecting her having bad character in Sabzi Mandi area on February 19, 2000.
They were also fined Rs400,000 collectively. They will have to undergo six months hard jail each in case of default of payment of fine.
FINED: Over 100 shopkeepers were fined by a television licence checking team in various bazaars of the city on Tuesday.
The teams checked the commercial TV licenses on Garjakh, Dhulley and Jinnah roads and Khiali Shahpur and fined them.
