KARACHI, June 4: The National Heritage Cell (NHC) of the Karachi Building Control Authority has asked the Sindh culture department (SCD) to get a structure blocking the view of the D. J. Science College demolished, it is learnt.

According to the sources, the NHC chief Farhatullah Qureshi, in a communication to secretary SCD Ashiq Hussain Memon, pointed out that the structure that comprised seminar hall, staff rooms, common room, etc, was blocking the view to the D. J. College building protected under the Sindh Cultural Heritage Protection Act.

He said that if the structure was removed the beautiful view of the facade of the pre-partition historical stone structure, an architectural gem, would be fully visible to be admired by the public.

He said that one such structure in the college premises was demolished in 1996.

The NHC chief suggested that the department shoudl order the demolition of the said structure so that the architectural beauty of the historical college building could be restored.

There are over 600 old buildings that have been declared protected under the Sindh Cultural Heritage Protection Act by the Sindh culture department. The department, with the assistance of the NHC, looks after historical buildings.
