KARACHI, June 2: Four young men drowned in the sea off the Gadani beach on Sunday.
Confirming the deaths, Edhi sources said that three young men and a teenager drowned in the sea when they went for swimming off the Gadani beach.
By night, three bodies identified as those of Naseem Akhtar, aged 22, Naveed, aged 22, and Waheed, aged 23, were fished out of the sea.
Search for the body of Yousuf, aged 17, was on till our going to the press.Naseem Akhtar and Yousuf were cousins.
The three bodies were recovered by lifeguards and Edhi volunteers after several hours of search in the evening.
A spokesman for the Edhi Foundation said that the three bodies had been handed over to the victims’ families.
Families of the victims said that a group of 10 friends had gone for picnic from Millat Chowk in Orangi Town’s sector 11 1/2. Most of the youths were from Orangi Town, but some were from other areas of the city also, they added.
The group had left for picnic around 10am. The news of their drowning reached the area at 3pm.
SUICIDES: Two young men committed suicide in the city on Saturday and Sunday.
The police said that Haider, aged 25, consumed poison in his home in Suliya goth, Malir City, after he had an argument with his family.
He was rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. The body was shifted to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre for post-mortem.
A young man committed suicide in his home in Surjani Town on late Saturday night. The police said that Danish Aqeel, aged 21, hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his apartment at KDA Flats in Surjani Town.
Family members found the body hanging from a ceiling fan when they returned home after attending a wedding. Danish’s father was abroad, the police said.
The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
CARJACKING: Eighteen vehicles — seven cars and 11 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, the police said.
One car was hijacked. Six others were stolen.Three motorcycles were hijacked. Eight others were stolen.The police also claimed on Sunday to have recovered two cars in the city.
FALLS TO DEATH: A labourer died after he fell from an under-construction building on M. A. Jinnah Road on Sunday.
The police said that Mohammed Farooq, aged 35, slipped from the third floor and fell on erected iron rods which pierced through his body.The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
ELECTROCUTED: A young man was electrocuted while working on an office premises on Sharea Faisal on Sunday.
The police said that Abid, aged 30, received a severe electric shock while doing electrical work on an office premises. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
