Two die in Kashmir attacks

SRINAGAR, June 1: Two people were killed and 39 injured in three grenade attacks within 24 hours in held Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

In an overnight attack inside Srinagar, one person was killed and 13 were injured when unidentified men fired a grenade at a foot patrol of India’s paramilitary Border Security Force, a police spokesman said.

The dead was identified as a civilian teenager, Bilal Ahmed, while the condition of three other civilians was critical.

In Kulgam, assailants on Saturday ambushed a group of pro-Indian guerrillas on the street, wounding two of the militants and six civilians.

One of the civilians, Abdul Rashid, died later in a hospital. Five others wounded seriously.

In a third attack at the town of Anantnag, a grenade was fired at a police picket stationed in front of a civil administration building, wounding 18 civilians and a policeman. Three women were among the injured.—AFP
