KUALA LUMPUR, June 1: Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Saturday he expected Malaysia’s economy to grow at more than four per cent in 2002, higher than earlier forecasts.

The growth projection has been raised following an encouraging recovery from last year’s slowdown, Bernama news agency quoted Mahathir as saying in a speech in conjunction with the Malaysian King’s birthday.

The central bank had forecast gross domestic product growth of 3.5 per cent this year, up from 0.4 per cent in 2001. In the first quarter, GDP grew by 1.1pc.—Reuters
