ISLAMABAD: Govt to devise code of conduct for employer, employees

ISLAMABAD, May 31: The ministry of women development is planning to work out a code of conduct for the employers and employees particularly with reference to working women.

This was decided at a consultative meeting held at the ministry of women development on Friday. The women development ministry secretary, Parveen Qadir Agha, presided over the meeting.

According to an official statement, the ministry of women development and social welfare in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), ministry of labour and civil society is working on evolving a mechanism and procedure to ensure enabling and secure environment for women at the work place.

Representatives of the ministry of labour, ILO and civil society attended the meeting and discussed the difficulties being faced by women at the work place.

The ministry of women development was looking into the prevailing working conditions particularly with reference to women.

The ministry would also initiate measures to eliminate any discriminatory attitude and practice at the work place and introduce facilities aimed at creating a conducive environment for the working women.

Mrs Agha said: “Our religion and Constitution envisage clear instructions on respect, dignity and a caring attitude towards women and stand against discrimination.

“Our cultural values also ask for respectful attitude towards women be at home, work place or shopping area,” she added.

She said necessary steps would be taken to ensure that women, working in different kinds of organizations and at various levels of jobs, do not face gender biases and feel secure and comfortable.
