Sirens tested

By Our Correspondent

BAHAWALPUR, May 28: The local civil defence organization on Tuesday tested electric sirens installed in different parts of the district.

The sirens were tested as a practice of mock air raids and people were asked not to suspend their normal activities.

At least 12 defence warden posts have been established in Bahawalpur to meet any emergency.

Besides, some 438 helmets, whistles, first-aid boxes, fire cylinders, gloves and other articles have been provided at these posts.

CANDIDATES: The local Jamaat-i-Islami has named candidates for each of NA and PA seat for the October election for Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan.

A press release issued on Tuesday stated Jamaat district Amir Dr Sayyid Waseem Akhtar would contest election from a NA seat in Bahawalpur.

The other candidates are district council’s ex-chairman Sayyid Mahmood Akbar Rizvi, local Kissan Board President Jam Hazoor Bakhsh, Malik Ashiq Sahoo, Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Muhammad Arshad Saleem and Ihasanul Haq.
