KARACHI, May 28: Sindh governor Mohammadmian Soomro has said on Tuesday, an ‘export desk’ will be set up at provincial level which will serve as one-window facility for addressing exporters problems they face in different departments.

He said that no country could sustain its economy without having aggressive trade beyond its geographical boundaries and capturing markets around the world and maintain them is a difficult task.

The governor during his visit to Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) house assured that all out efforts would be made to resolve problems confronting export trade. He said only higher exports could rid the country of debt burden and manage its budget deficit.

Referring to a point raised by the vice chairman PHMA Muhammad Kamran Chandna about deteriorating law and order situation, the governor said that except for a few lapses in the recent past the situation is now much better.

The issue of terrorism, he said has become world phenomena and as such the law and order has assumed lesser importance for attracting investment. During his meetings with foreign investors, he said, the emphasis had been laid upon consistency in investment policies, documentation and judicial system.

Responding to a number of problems confronting export industry in the province and in the city in particular, the governor suggested that he could call a meeting of the heads of provincial departments for sorting out the issues on the spot.

Undoubtedly, he said the May 8 terrorist act in the city had inflicted a setback but the impact of such incidents never long last as the life has to go on.

Soomro said his government will also look into the matter of clubbing all provincial taxes into a single head.

The federal and provincial governments, he said, have already taken up several development projects in the field of water, drainage and roads to improve city’s infrastructure.

He asked the PHMA members to launch desalination and power generation projects for the city and run them on commercial basis.

The governor even suggested to nominate businessmen as justice of peace to look into law and order problems confronting industrial areas where highhandedness of police and some anti-social elements are presently on a high.
