KARACHI: Revised bus fares irks students

KARACHI, May 27: The students of various educational institutions have expressed their disappointment after the government allowed transporters to increase bus fares.

A student asked from where he and others like him could afford to pay the increasing bus fares. “In the past we paid Re1 by using our student card in buses, but now we have to pay 50 per cent more.” he said.

The survey revealed that students are compelled to pay high fares as many of them study in colleges or universities far away from their houses and also go to tuition centres.

At the end of the day, the total fare they end up paying is more than their daily pocket money.

A university student said, “The government should immediately restore the past system of fixed fare for students in both minibuses and coaches.”

A Karachi University professor also appealed to the government to implement the fixed fare system in minibuses and coaches.—PPI
