Shehryar, Riaz on top

KARACHI, May 24: Shehryar Arshad with crewman Muhammad Riaz gave another superb performance which put them on the verge of retaining their crown in the Enterprise National Sailing Championship after winning their fourth successive race at Pakistan Navy Aquatics Club Friday.

The pair who won the opening two-races Thursday in the best of seven races series Shehryar/Riaz again excelled to out- sail their opponents in third and fourth race.

Another victory Saturday in one of the two races will assure Shehryar/Riaz to perform the hat trick of winning the national enterprise title for three times in succession.

Youthful helmsman Shehryar and experienced Riaz demonstrated good control over their boat despite strong south westerly wind to rest the left of the field in the third race.

They maintained the tempo by easily winning the fourth race and with zero point are heading the field.

However Lt Cdr Akram Tariq/Lt Cdr Imran Iftikhar produced the upset in both third and fourth races by finishing second.

They relegated first day’s second position holders Naseem Javed and Abdul Hameed to third position. However both are tied for second spot with 11.7 points. Both the races Saturday will be crucial for both the pairs.

In Silver Fleet Petty Officer Muhammad Anwar/Sarfraz are leading. Petty Officer Ishfaq Elahi/M.Rasheed are placed second while Cpl Tech Muhammad Yousuf and Cpl Muhammad Tanvir are placed third.—APP
