Solar lights installed at Gilgit park

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, May 24: The army engineering corps has installed solar lights in the city park. This is the third largest plant in the country, which has an illuminating capacity of 1,588 watts and can light as many 124 lights fitted in the newly-constructed park, Maj Rafique told newsmen here on Thursday.

He observed that the solar system was a perennial source of energy and was more economical and cheaper and productive than the hydroelectricity.

Maj Rafique said the solar lights would remain illuminated even if there was no sunshine due to cloudy weather. “Even after the exhaustion of the storage capacity within four days, its spare batteries can electrify for another 24 hours and the system is replaceable with the hydro-electricity.”
