KARACHI: Reckless driving claims 2 lives

KARACHI, May 24: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Friday.

One passenger died and nine others were injured when a speeding truck collided with a passenger coach coming from Hyderabad near Nooriabad on Super Highway, the police said.

The police said that an unidentified passenger sitting on the rear sit died in the accident.

Some 35 passengers were travelling in the coach when the accident occurred.

Nine passengers, identified as Arshad, Abid, Asim, Azhar, Mateen, Shah Wali, Jameel, Tehseen and Syed Athar, were injured. They had been admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police could not confirm the registration numbers of the two vehicles. However, they claimed to have arrested the truck driver.

A middle-aged man died in a road accident in Mominabad. The police said that Umar Zeb was run over by a speeding minibus of route N-4. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

The police said that the minibus was being driven by Akbar, the conductor of the bus, when the accident took place.

The police claimed to have arrested the driver.
