KARACHI, May 17: The city government will introduce modern long buses for benefit of the citizens, gradually replacing coaches and minibuses to lessen daily accidents, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan said.

He was talking to a delegation of National Transport Ittehad, which called on him at the city government secretariat on Friday.

The delegation, which was led by its chairman Salim Khan Bangash, apprised the Nazim of problems being faced by the transporters.

DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Piracha, and DIG traffic police Saud Mirza were also present during the meeting.

Naimatullah Khan said that modern large buses fitted with CNG kits would serve the citizens better and advised the transporters to give priority to welfare of the people.

He said that keeping in view the increasing number of road accidents in the city it had been decided to bring some discipline in the implementation of traffic rules and transporters should appreciate the gesture.

However, he assured the transporters that police personnel found committing excesses would be proceeded against and instructed the DIG (traffic) to take action accordingly.

EID-I-MILAD: The arrangements in connection with Eid Mild-un-Nabi were reviewed at a high-level meeting.

On the occasion, Nazim Karachi Naimatullah said that no slackness in that regard on the part of the administration would be tolerated.

It was decided that the arrangements for Eid Milad celebration would be as comprehensive as were made on the occasion of Moharram-ul-Haram. It was decided that permissions for taking out Milad processions would be issued without any discrimination to all those organizations, institutions and people who were issued such permissions in the past.

The meeting decided that such permissions would be granted in consultation with town Nazims and town police officers.

It was also decided that the city Nazim would chair a law and order meeting every month to be attended by all the Nazims, police and city government officers and TPOs to review the situation.—PPI/APP
