RAWALPINDI, May 13: Regardless of strict security measures adopted by the police and district administration, incidence of crime increased in April, statistics showed.

The crimes included murders, attempted murders, fatal accidents, robberies and motor vehicle thefts in Rawalpindi district.

The statistics collected from police department revealed that the value of stolen goods was estimated at Rs13,926,710, whereas in the corresponding period, last year the worth of stolen goods were Rs10,759,177.

The recovery by the police from April 1 to April 30 had fallen from 30 per cent to 28 per cent and police recovered valuables worth Rs3,894,520 in April.

In the corresponding period, last year valuables worth Rs4,105,542 were recovered.

As many as 20 murder cases were reported during April, as compared to 13 murder cases registered with Rawalpindi police in the corresponding period, last year.

Five dacoities and 18 robberies were reported last month, while in the corresponding period, last year, there were no cases of dacoities reported, statistics showed.

According to the statistics, 51 vehicles were stolen from different parts of Rawalpindi district during the month of April. In the corresponding year, last year 49 vehicles had been stolen. As many as 207 vehicles had been picked up from Rawalpindi district this year, so far.

Similarly, 47 burglaries and 44 incidents of theft were registered during April, while 47 burglaries and 45 incidents of theft were reported with the Rawalpindi district police in the corresponding period, last year.

Robbers looted shops, clinics, houses, post offices as well as the poor and the passers-by, last month.

There was a slight drop in the cases of child abduction with 16 reported kidnappings in Rawalpindi in April, as compared to 17 such incidents in the corresponding period, last year.

A senior police officer attributed the poor performance of police to the appointment of a chosen few police officers in various police stations.
