HYDERABAD, May 13: A large number of students of Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, under the banner of “Students Unity” here on Monday staged a protest march from central canteen to the Vice Chancellor’s block where, they staged a sit-in to protest against the policies of Vice Chancellor Dr Bashir Ahmed Chandio.

The activists of JSSF, STPSF, SPSF-SB, SNSF and Ponam students’ alliance namely Baloch and Pakhtoon students took part in the protest.

Addressing the rally leaders of students’ unity, Suleman Veesar, Hyder Shah, Jam Bhutto, Aijaz Tunio and others said that the university administration has turned the campus into a jail and the students were being treated like prisoners.

They alleged that while the students were being made to pay magazine, tuition and sports fees, all the academic, cultural, recreational and social activities had been banned.

They said that this amount was being spent on retired army personnel and police.

They announced that a referendum will be held at the campus on May 15 whether the vice chancellor should or should not remain in the university.

They said that the university administration had sought help from the police and agencies to sabotage the referendum and warned that all attempts to arrest the students will be resisted.

HUNGER STRIKE: A group of activists of the Sindhi Hari Tehrik staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Monday to protest against the alleged murderous attack on a hari leader.

The hari leader, Mohammad Akram Otho, was also robbed of Rs30,000 within the jurisdiction of Chambar police station.

Talking to newsmen, the leaders of Sindhi Hari Tehrik (SHT), Mohammad Siddique Otho and Mohsin Sindhi, said that a case against Mooso Otho, Sattar Otho and their accomplices, who had allegedly fired upon Mohammad Akram, had been registered at the Chambar police station.

They, however, alleged that the police was reluctant to arrest the accused as they enjoyed the support of some influential people of the area.

They said the relatives, witnesses and supporters of Mohammad Akram Otho were receiving threats of dire consequences.

They demanded of the authorities concerned to order the arrest of the accused and provide protection to the aggrieved party failing which the SHT would enlarge the scope of protest.

MUET: The students of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology have taken second position in the quiz as well as software competition at the All Pakistan Inter-University Competition.

The competition was organized by the College of Computer and Management Science at Abbotabad on May 2-3.

Students of over 25 institutes of information technology from all over Pakistan participated in the event.

In another competition of All Pakistan Universities on the “Speed Programme” held at the National University of Engineering Science, Lahore, the students of the Mehran University were ranked first from Sindh province and sixth throughout the country.

The programme was conducted by the Association of Computer Machinery in which 73 teams from all over the country participated.

Assistant Prof Nasarullah Memon was the guide of the two teams.
