NA can’t bring democracy: PPP leader

MIRUPURKHAS, May 12: Former federal minister and leader of Pakistan People’s Party, Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur, has said creation of National Alliance cannot strengthen democratic process in the country.

He added that if fair election are held the people will reject it, he told party leaders and workers here on Sunday, says a press release.

Referring to two contradictory statements of Farooq Leghari and Mumtaz Bhutto, the PPP leader said Farooq has denied government support to his alliance while Mumtaz finds nothing absurd if his alliance is sponsored by the government. “Such statements prove that the NA is the brainchild of the Musharraf regime which has lost support as demonstrated in the referendum,” he added.

He said the PNA in 1977 inflicted irreparable loss to the nation. Now a similar alliance has been created by the military government which will prove detrimental to democracy.

Member of PPP central executive committee further said that no cosmetic operation of political orphans can bring the much needed political stability and law and order unless true leadership is not allowed to lead the nation according to the aspirations of the people.

He said Benazir Bhutto will return home and celebrate the Independence Day with the people of Pakistan and play her role in restoring democracy despite threats from the government.
