KARACHI: Boy run over by tanker: Youth commits suicide

KARACHI, May 12: A 15-year-old boy was run over by a water tanker near Kalapul on Sunday.

The police said that Ismail was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a speeding water tanker (LSA-935) while walking across the main road near Kalapul. He died on the spot. The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post-mortem.

After having crushed the boy, the water tanker also hit against an electric pole and the driver, identified as Riasat, was also injured. He had been admitted to the JPMC, the police said.

SUICIDE: A teenager committed suicide in his home in Pak Colony on Sunday.

The police said that Mohammed Shahid, aged 18, took poison in the early morning and fell unconscious. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Quoting the family, the police said that Shahid was a drug addict, and he had been ailing for the past several months.

BIKE HIJACKING Six motorcycles were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Sunday, the police said.

One motorcycle was hijacked. Five others were stolen.

The police also claimed on Sunday to have recovered four cars and two motorcycles in the city.

VIOLENCE: People pelted vehicles with stones following the arrest of a Khatib of Jama Masjid in Future Colony, Landhi, Maulana Abdul Rahman, under the MPO, on Sunday.

The police said that people stoned passing vehicles in Future Colony and staged a sit-in in front of Sharafi goth police station.

However, the police dispersed the protesters by resorting to baton charge.

A duty officer at Sharafi goth police station said that Maulana Rahman belonged to the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan, and was arrested under the MPO.

ARRESTED: The Nazimabad police arrested on Sunday two activists of the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) for their alleged involvement in sectarian killings.

The police said that Rana Mohammed Yusuf alias Guddu, a former security guard of Maulana Azam Tariq, chief of the SSP, was arrested in Nazimabad. A .222 rifle and a TT pistol were also recovered from his possession. The police claimed that Yusuf confessed to have killed Mujahid in Sector 5-G in New Karachi, Syed Akhtar Abbas and Syed Raza Abbas in Sector11-I in New Karachi, and Syed Haider Abbas in Buffer Zone.
