LAHORE, May 11: The defending champions Allied Bank, Habib Bank, ADBP and Wapda have qualified for the semifinal of the 42nd National Table Tennis Championship Men’s team events at the Iqbal Park Sports Complex Saturday.
ABL defeated Faisalabad 3-0 in the first quarterfinals.
International Kashif Razaq defeated Aasim Munir, to give bankers 1-0 lead. Razaq registered a straight set 11-6, 11-8, 12- 10 victory. Another international Aasim Qureshi made it 2-0 when he toppled Muhammad Iqbal 11-5, 11-5- 13-11. Shahzad Wasim outplayed Faisal 11-6, 11-5, 11-2.
HBL beat Karachi 3-0. Yasir Bhatti opened the account beating Ayaz Leghari 11-9, 11-8, 11-9. Aasim Aziz faced a tough challenge before ousting Khawaja Kashif 3-1 with the score 7-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9. Ahmad Husain also went to four sets to beat Mukhtar Ahmed 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-7.
ADBP outplayed Lahore 3-0 to make the last four. Mehboob Elahi defeated Jehangir Khan 11-8, 11-9, 11-8. Balal Yasin thrashed Ghazanfar Ali 11-1, 11-5, 11-6 to increase the lead 2-0. Irfan Pirzada beat Qayyum 11-9, 11-6, 5-11, 11-9 to complete the win.
In the fourth quarterfinals, Wapda trounced PWD 3-0. Ali Faisal gave Wapda a flying start when he outplayed Nehan Essa 11-3, 11-4, 11-7. Saleem Abbas went full distance to beat Nadir Sohail 11-8, 7-11, 11-3, 10-12, 11-5. Adnan beat carved out victory against Muhammad Khalid 10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 13-11.
The semifinals will be played late on Saturday night. The final will be held on Monday.
In the women’s team event ABL, Wapda, HBL and Army qualified for the last four after winning three matches each.
