KARACHI: City govt provides funds for schools


KARACHI, May 11: The city government has provided funds for improvement and repair of its school buildings and meeting other requirements.

On the directives of City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, steps have been taken for transparent utilization of these funds through the Fund Committee, in which members of the school management committee would also be included.

The Fund Committee will include parents’ representatives, female councillors, area notables and members of local zakat committee.

The District Coordination Officer, Karachi, Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, on Saturday visited the Government Boys Secondary School, Natha Khan Goth, Shah Faisal Town, and was apprised of the school management committee meetings.

The DCO said that under the city government policy, the education department was providing Rs4,000 per classroom to primary schools which are part of the city government.

He said funds would be released to about 550 schools of the defunct KMC, which have come under the city government.

Mr Paracha directed the EDO (education) Rais Alvi and district officer Mohammed Hanif to ensure that school management committees hold its meetings regularly and efforts be made for participation of parents.

He said the funds were being provided for improving the condition of school buildings, classrooms and to meet their requirements for electricity and water.—APP
