MULTAN, May 10: Gorchani Sardar Pervez Khan has expressed concern over the ‘safety’ of his son Sher Ali who has been missing from Dera Ghazi Khan since being accused for kidnapping a college girl a couple of days back.
Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, he claimed his son Sher Ali, 20, had been in love with the girl who belonged to humble background. He said Ali had time and again insisted him to talk to the girl’s parents. “I refused to budge before the pressure of my son because both the families had different social values,” the Sardar said.
He claimed the girl’s mother Aziz Khatoon had visited his home many times and urged him to ‘surrender’ before the will of son.
However, he claimed, he turned down all her requests. At this, he claimed, the woman threatened him with dire consequences.
Later, the woman staged a ‘drama’ of the kidnapping of her daughter and involving Ali, he said, adding his son had become a ‘plaything’ in the hands of the woman.
Sardar Gorchani alleged the girl had eloped with his son. He maintained the girl’s mother was aware of the whereabouts of Sher Ali and her daughter and was employing tactics to force him to accept the girl as his daughter-in-law.
He also alleged rivals of Gorchani clan had been exploiting the situation for political gains. He said Laghari and Dareshak chiefs were traditional rivals of Gorchanis in Rajanpur district.
Eye-witnesses told Dawn that the girl was forcibly dragged into the car by Sher Ali. They said her books and veil fell on the road in her struggle for rescue.
Meanwhile, scores of people have staged a rally in front of Gorchani Manzil in Akramabad Colony to condemn the hostility.
