Hunt for ‘militants’ continues

GUJRANWALA, May 10: Police on Friday continued crackdown on the activists of banned outfits including Sipah Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), Jaish-i-Muhammad and Lashkar-i-Taiba.

Police took several activists into custody while a majority of them went underground for the fear of their arrest.

SHEIKHUPURA: The district police on Friday arrested over a dozen activists of banned organizations from different parts of the district.

When contacted, police officials said every step would be taken to keep the law and order situation under control.

TOBA TEK SINGH: Two more religious parties’ activists were arrested in Toba Tek Singh on Friday.

They are identified as Khalid Mahmood Dogar of Chak 335-GB and Qari Muhammad Akram of Pirmahal.

Police had already arrested 14 activists in the crackdown and lodged them in judicial lock ups in Kamalia, Pirmahal, Gojra and Toba Tek Singh. Most of the arrested men had recently been released after completion of their three-month detention under MPO 16.

SARGODHA: Police arrested Maulana Zahid Mehmood of Harkatul Mujahideen from his house at Jhawarian.

Religious circles claimed that over a dozen innocent activists were arrested by police.
