HYDERABAD, May 10: The activists of the Sindh National Party, including women, led by its chairman Dr Dodo Mehri staged a token hunger strike here on Friday against the non-employment of local population in the industrial units, contract and daily wages system and closure of a large number of factories.
Talking to newsmen, Dr Dodo Mehri said that only outsiders were being employed in the local industrial units of the city.
He demanded that the locals should also be given jobs in all the factories and contract and daily wages system be abolished.
He demanded that all closed units should be re-opened and made operative so that the problem of unemployment could be addressed.
The SNP leader rejected the decision of IRSA to allow the construction of greater Thal Canal, and demanded that the people of Sindh be taken into confidence in this regard.
LABOUR PARTY: A large number of activists of Labour Party of Pakistan staged a protest demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club on Friday for the regularization of old villages.
The protesters carried banners inscribed with slogans for the regularization of old villages and provision of drinking water, schools, roads, Sui gas and electricity.
Addressing the rally, the provincial general secretary of the party, Umer Baloch said that while the rulers had burdened the poor with 38.8 billion dollars foreign debt, 80 per cent of the people were even deprived of drinking water.
He demanded that the katchi abadis of Hyderabad be regularized and proprietary rights be provided to the people.
JSQM: Around 35 activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz led by Masroor Thebo, Chacha Qasim Soomro, Najeeb Qureshi and Mushtaq Umrani staged a token hunger strike here on Friday to protest against the arrest of party leader Dhani Bux Abro.
Talking to newsmen, Chacha Qasim Soomro alleged that Dhani Bux Abro was picked up by SHO Bhitai Nagar on May 1 in connection with the MQM strike, and since then his whereabouts were not known.
He warned that if Abro was not released, the JSQM would stage a series of demonstrations throughout the province.
JUI: About 60 activists, including students of JUI(F), staged a protest demonstration here on Friday against the raid on a JUI madressah in Bannu, and the arrest of its local leaders.
Addressing the rally, Aslam Chandio, Hafiz Waheedullah, Maulana Azam Jehangiri and others alleged that the rulers were working as ‘paid employees’ of the United States and trying to crush the “Islamic movements” in the country.
