KARACHI: Clue found to car’s ownership

KARACHI, May 9: The Karachi police are learnt to have found important clue to the car which was used in blowing up a bus of the Pakistan Navy on Wednesday. Eleven Frenchmen and five Pakistanis were killed in the explosion.

Police have taken two witnesses into custody.

The red Toyota car (J-6560), owned by Mumtaz, a resident of Malir, was stolen on May 25, 1989, but was recovered a month later and handed over to the owner.

Mumtaz told police that he sold the car to Shahabuddin. Police traced Shahab-uddin.

He told police that he had given the car to a mechanic, Arif, for its disposal.

Arif told police that he sold the car to Aslam, a resident of Mominabad.

Aslam, however, did not take the delivery of the car until Tuesday when he sent three persons with Rs100,000 as the agreed price of the car.

They handed over the money and took the car with them.

Police are now in search of Aslam, who has disappeared.—APP
