KARACHI: 73 vigilance teams formed for Inter exams

KARACHI, May 8: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, has formed 73 vigilance teams, comprising two persons each, to look after different examination centres for one complete sitting.
Sources in the Board said each team would be responsible for the affairs of one or two centres every day for one shift of examinations. Unlike the previous years, the teams would be responsible for looking after the centres on a day-to-day basis and would stay for three hours at one particular centre, instead of conducting surprise visits or raids to detect candidates using unfair means.
In all, 35 teams will work at pre-engineering group centres, while another 38 teams will supervise pre-medical, commerce and home economics groups.
The teams would comprise both male and female teachers and there will be no separate teams consisting of female teachers for girl students’ centres, added the source.
Besides, two special teams would be posted at the BIE to rush to any of the centres in case of emergency. The special teams could also conduct surprise visits. The Board has also set up a vigilance cell where day-to-day cases of unfair means would be reported.
In addition to the BIE arrangements, one team comprising the senior officers working in the Governor’s House would also monitor the ongoing annual examinations, said a BIE official.
The provincial education secretary has also constituted committees to visit different examination centres set up by different educational boards in the province.
The education department teams would visit the centres in Karachi almost every day for monitoring and ensuring transparent examinations, said a source in the education department.
Meanwhile, another three candidates were caught using unfair means during the first shift of examinations on Wednesday and one during the second shift on Tuesday. The candidates were held at the DJ Science College, GBBS Malir Cantt. and Govt College for Men, Nazimabad.
