RAWALPINDI, May 7: As many as 2,053 vacancies of teachers in the Rawalpindi district will be filled during this fiscal, sources told Dawn here on Tuesday.

The Punjab government will allocate funds for this purpose in the forthcoming budget, the source said.

“The teachers will be hired in three categories: elementary educators for primary classes, senior elementary educators for middle school classes and secondary educators for secondary and higher secondary school classes,” the sources added.

The elementary school educators would be offered a monthly salary of Rs4,250 with a Rs200 annual increment while the senior elementary school educators will be given Rs4,500 a month with Rs220 annual increase. The secondary school educators would be offered Rs5,500 a month with Rs275 annual increase.

The qualification required for both elementary and senior elementary educators is graduation with a primary teacher’s certificate or any other teaching qualification.

The education required for secondary school educator is masters degree with a professional degree like MEd or BEd.

The district government, the sources said, had planned to offer hardship allowance to those appointed in hilly areas of the district like Murree and Kotli Sattian.

The appointments would be contractual for a maximum period of five years after which the contracts would be renewed depending on the performance of the teachers.

The district government has also decided to give a uniform look to various schools, running under its control.
