Wheat purchase exceeds target

GUJRANWALA, May 6: Around 350,000 metric tons of wheat has been procured from the farmers of Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Mandi Bahauddin districts against the target of 250,000 metric tons.

This was stated by Food Department Deputy Director Abdul Qayyum Lashari on Monday.

He said that a target of 140,000 metric tons had been fixed for Gujranwala, 60,000 for Sialkot, 30,000 for Narowal, 5,000 for Gujrat and 20,000 metric tons for Mandi Bahauddin.

He said that Pasco would purchase wheat from Hafizabad district and Pindi Bhattian tehsil.

According to him, 27,000 metric tons of wheat had been purchased from Ghakkar, Ahmad Nagar, Wazirabad, Alipur Chattha, Nausheran Virkan, Kamoki, Eminabad, Qila Dedar Singh and Naukher.

He said that gunny bags were being supplied to farmers and they were being paid for their produce immediately.

TEACHER KILLED: A school teacher was shot dead by his rivals over an agricultural land dispute in Karyal Kalan, Naushera Virkan, on Monday.

Muzammal Hussain was going to his house from school when he was intercepted by Muhammad Ashraf, Liaquat Ali, Javed, Imran and others.

After an exchange of hot words with Muzammal, they opened fire on him and escaped.

Muzammal was taken to th the Mayo Hospital in Lahore where he succumbed to his injuries.

Naushera Virkan police registered the case against the accused and were investigating.

WOMAN POISONED: A mother of three was poisoned by her husband and mother-in-law in Kamoki on Monday.

Nasim Bibi of Sialkot was married to Muhammad Khalil some eight years ago.

Khalil and his mother Sarraya Bibi were unhappy with Nasim because she gave birth to three daughters. They offered her a poisoned food. She died on way to the local civil hospital.

The body was handed over to the heirs of Nasim after the autopsy.

Police registered the case against the accused and were investigating.

ARRESTED: The district police claimed to have arrested 25 proclaimed offenders and busted several gangs of dacoits. A spokesman said on Monday that huge quantity of illegal weapons and looted goods were recovered from their possession during a five-hour drive here on Monday.
