KARACHI: Work on Rs532m water filter plant begins

KARACHI, May 6: The construction work on a filter plant, Hub Water Treatment Works, having the capacity to filter 80 million gallons of water near Manghopir pumping station, has been initiated at an estimated cost of Rs532 million, which will be completed by January 2005.

It is part of the Karachi Water Supply Improvement Project, which is aimed at providing the citizens with clean potable water in accordance with international hygienic standards, said KWSB managing-director Brig Bahram Khan, while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the construction work on Monday.

Brig Bahram said the KWSB was planning to provide the Karachiites with additional water with improved quality.

The officials said that Karachi water supply improvement project comprised five components. The C-4 component was being built at Manghopir, which included construction of filter plant, buildings, chemical block building, administration block, generator block and wash water recovery system.
