Farmers for provision of gunny bags

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, May 5: Farmers have protested against the food department for not providing them gunny bags for wheat supply.

Some farmers of Naushera Virkan, Kamoki and Wahando areas told newsmen here on Sunday that the government had issued directives that gunny bags should be provided to landlords and farmers instead of commission agents. But food officials were supplying the same to commission agents without any justification.

They alleged that food officials and commission agents were causing a loss to growers by purchasing wheat at low price. They said the food department had not set up any procurement centre in Wahando and commission agents were purchasing wheat from them for Rs250 to Rs260 per 40kg instead of Rs300.

They demanded that gunny bags should be provided to them through one-window operation.
