Industrial botany


IF we can have industrial chemistry and industrial microbiology, why can’t we have industrial botany? The importance of plants in our life is immense.

They provide us food, fibres, medicines and raw material for many industrial chemicals and medicinal extracts. Our agriculture and agro-based industries also depend on plants.

Plants provide sustenance to life. Animal and human being depend on plants for food. Many industries depend on plants for the raw material e.g. textile, jute, food, wood, spices.

Even oil and gas are fossil fuels, products of plants and animal origin, which got buried beneath the earth many centuries ago.

Considering the importance of botany, I sent a proposal to the University of Karachi to set up an institute of industrial botany (IIB).
