ISLAMABAD, April 26: The federal science and technology minister, Prof Attaur Rehman, has stressed the need for establishing marketing cells in the industrial units to link industries with markets.
He was speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day “Futurz 2002” exhibition being held at the Convention Centre here on Friday.
The exhibition is part of the ongoing Margalla Festival.
The minister said, the government’s emphasis on science and technology for economic development had covered all important aspects so that people could learn about the nature of products and their market potentials.
He said such industrial exhibitions would be held every year.
Earlier, President Pervez Musharraf was scheduled to attend the opening ceremony as the chief guest, but due to his preoccupations, Prof Rehman inaugurated the exhibition. The minister appreciated the standard and quality of the products put on display at different stalls, and said these equipment had both civil and defence utilities.
“All equipment, like satellite base ground position system for vehicle locations that will discourage car-theft, solar panels, battery-operated cars and equipment for street-mapping, have dual use,” he said.
He was confident that commercial production of these products for export purposes would start soon and would help in putting the country’s economy back on track.
He said the exhibition had been held to create interest, specially among the youths, in the field of science and technology by informing them about the achievements of the professionals in different fields.
