I Am The King should make amends today

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, April 23: If nothing goes wrong, I Am The King, should make amends to win the Pattoki Plate, Class VII Division VII featuring the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races to be held Wednesday.

In his last outing on March 10, the six-year-old bay horse, was beaten by the four-year-old bay filly Silver Heart over six furlongs. The racing pundits attributed his defeat to his first try-out after a long time.

The progeny of Rare Flyre out of King’s Queen, I Am The King, is appearing in almost the same division over a shorter distance of five furlongs in the sixth and last race in the racing order.

Of the nine contestants, the main challenge should come from form runners like Aao Payar Se, Puma Star and Oneeza. They are good sprinters over the five furlong distance.

The supporting and fifth event, the Pattoki Plate Class VII Division V has 10 runners. The chestnut gelding Pistol Pete seems to be a good proposition in this event. The way he won in a lower division on April 17, Pistol Pete looks well set to make it two in-a-row. In handicap too he has a good chance.

In view of the scorching heat, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards has decided to start races from 3.30 pm.

A card of six races will be decided. All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.
