MIRPURKHAS, April 23: The Sindh government has approved a scheme of realignment of remaining portion of the Nara Canal with an estimated cost of Rs1120 million, it was reliably learnt here on Tuesday.
The scheme for remaining portion of the canal, from Tando Mitha Khan to Farash, has been prepared by the provincial irrigation department and submitted to the Sindh government for its approval.
The realignment of the canal from its head to Tando Mitha Khan had already been completed.
Sources disclosed that high-ranking officers were busy in finalizing the policy of compensation for the lands, which would be utilized in the scheme.
After completion of the scheme, it is hoped that acute shortage of water in taluka Umerkot particularly its tail-end areas from Hiral and Dhoro Naro to Cheel Band would be eliminated.
BOOKED: Two landlords were booked by Kunri police for water theft on Tuesday.
Mohammad Saleem Memon, Darogha of Nabisar Minor, had lodged an FIR with Kunri police that landlords Naseer Dogar and Basheer Dogar were involved in water stealing by tampering with watercourse No.11.
ARRESTED: Digri police arrested two accused Gul Hassan Nohani and Khuda Bux Chandio and also seized 4 bottles of wine from their possession.
Meanwhile, Kot Ghulam Muhammad police apprehended accused Murad Keerio and seized an unlicensed pistol from his possession.
