KARACHI: Concern at increasing crime rate in Lyari

KARACHI, April 22: Speakers at a meeting held here on Sunday expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and the increasing crime rate in Lyari.

They observed that young people were taking to drugs and were indulging in criminal activities due to the rising level of unemployment.

Condemning the incident in Ali Mohammad Mohallah on Friday, they said it showed that drug- related crimes had become serious, and demanded of the government to check such crimes immediately.

The situation called for immediate steps to improve the civic conditions in the locality and providing jobs to young people, they added.

Convened by the Baloch Ittehad Tehrik, the meeting was presided over by Prof Ali Mohammad Shaheen, and addressed among others by BIT Chief Anwar Bhaijan, chairman Abid Brohi, Mama Yunis, professors Ismail Brohi and Khuda Bukhsh Baloch.

The meeting resolved that it would work for greater unity among the Baloch and the people of Sindh, and observed that unity among the Baloch was vital to solve community-based problems.
