KARACHI: Governor urges media to support referendum


KARACHI, April 20: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said the April 30 referendum will end uncertainty, promote investment, open new vistas of employment and speed up the pace of development.

He was talking to editors and senior journalists at a luncheon he hosted for them here in the Governor’s House on Saturday.

The governor said during his recent visit to the province, the President had been assured of support by the majority of the people in the presidential referendum to ensure continuity of his policies.

He said the President’s public meetings at Hyderabad and Mirpur Khas had been cancelled due to hot weather and time constraint. However, the President would visit the two cities soon and meet various delegations there.

The governor said the Sindh government had returned more than Rs10 billion in overdraft to the State Bank of Pakistan and also paid Rs12 billion old electricity dues to Wapda.

About law and order situation, he claimed that it had improved greatly and the people had appreciated the government’s efforts.

On the restoration of political activities in the province, Governor Soomro said political parties were allowed to hold public meetings. He appeale to the media people to mobilize public opinion in favour of the referendum. — APP/PPI
