KARACHI, April 12: Police shot dead an alleged bandit, in what they claimed an encounter, with bandits at Sea View on late Thursday night.

This is second encounter in 48 hours. On early Wednesday morning two suspected bandits had been shot dead in Surjani Town police limits.

Three unidentified bandits, riding on a motorcycle, intercepted an employee of the electrical department of the Pakistan Navy, Shahzad Ahmed Malik, while he was passing through the Sea View area, with his wife, on a motorcycle.

The unidentified armed men snatched a mobile phone and cash from Mr Malik.

Two policemen of Darakhshan police station, who were patrolling the area on motorcycles, chased the bandits. During the chase, the bandits opened fire at the policemen, who returned the fire. A bullet hit one of the bandits who died on the spot.

His accomplices escaped on their motorcycle.

Police recovered the looted valuables, the cash and mobile phone, and a pistol from the dead bandit.

The body was sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem. After post-mortem, the body had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, police said.
