Procurement of wheat from 15th

GUJRANWALA, April 4: The procurement of wheat in the district will start from April 15.

This was stated by District Food Controller Sherjeel Mirza on Thursday.

Speaking at a news conference, he said that wheat procurement target has been set at 140,000 tons. For the purpose, 11 centres have been set up.

He said that 21,000 tons of wheat would be purchased at three centres of Gujranwala city, 23,000 tons at Kamoki, 16,000 tons at Eminabad, 26,000 tons at Nausheran Virkan, 15,000 tons at Ghakhar, 8,000 tons each at Wazirabad and Qila Dedar Singh, 12,000 tons at Ahmad Nagar, 6,000 tons at Naukher and 5,000 tons at Alipur centres.

At least 10 and maximum 200 empty bag would be provided to each farmer on deposit of Rs50 per bag. The government has provided sufficient funds to the banks to ensure payment to farmers.

The government would purchase wheat from farmers at Rs300 per 40 kilogrammes. He asked the farmers to contact deputy director food in case of any problems.

GCCI: The local Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has expressed concern over delay in construction of the service road on either sides of the GT Road.

Speaking at a meeting here on Thursday, the GCCI President Rana Nasir Mahmood complained traffic movement on the road was producing dust clouds. The road had become a trap for passers-by prone to dust diseases.

Criticizing the company, he said it was busy constructing some link roads and ignoring the one along the GT Road.

Mr Mahmood urged the authorities concerned to take stock of the situation and order the company to expedite the work.

ALLOCATED: The district government has allocated a sum of Rs84.661 million for the uplift of some 30 schemes.

At a meeting here on Thursday, district Nazim Fayyaz Ahmad Chattha pointed out that Rs21.533 million had been allocated for seven uplift schemes of highways, Rs 4.513 million for three schemes of literacy, Rs 8.622 million for education, Rs 9.493 million for health, Rs25.353 million for 10 projects of the Gujranwala Development Authority and Rs18.821 million for eight schemes of Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa).

The sewerage and water supply schemes of union councils in rural and urban areas would be completed under the Khushal Pakistan Programme (KPP) and the Annual Development Programme (ADP), he said.

The Nazim urged all the heads of the government functionaries to ensure completion of these projects within stipulated period till June 30.

Meanwhile, the local tehsil council approved park for children in the People’s Colony to be completed at a cost of Rs2 million.

Tehsil Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad informed the participants that about 150 square yards land had been acquired by the council for the said purpose.
