KARACHI: Karavan Karachi, PSO hold roadsense programme


KARACHI, March 27: The Capital City Police Chief, Asad Jehangir Khan, on Wednesday underscored the need for evolving effective laws for pedestrians to reduce the number of fatalities which are 54 per cent in the country, at present.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of third event of “Karavan Karachi PSO Roadsense programme at PSO House in Karachi, he said: “Road safety” is gauge to judge traffic system worldwide, but unfortunately this element is absent in Pakistan’s traffic system, as a result a large number of deaths were occurring every year.

Jehangir Khan said: “last year 54 per cent causalities were recorded among pedestrians for whom we do not have laws and facilities of footpath as well. Daily about 2.6 million people walk on roads and it is not easy for the police to discipline such a huge population”.

City Nazim Niamatullah Khan said: The programme will create an awareness among the new generation about traffic rules which are essential for a safe travel on roads.

Yasmin Lari, Chairperson, Karavan Karachi, Kaleem A. Siddiqi, GM Lubricants and Chemicals PSO, Town Nazim UC-10 Saddar Town, Syed Najim Alam also spoke.

The programme roadsense, organized in collaboration with traffic police, was attended by around 500 schoolchildren. Besides, posters replicating traffic rules and safety measures by students were also put on display inside PSO House Auditorium.

Later, the City Nazim distributed prizes among students on their best poster entries. The poster exhibition will remain open on weekdays.—PPI
