HYDERABAD, March 26: A large number of the residents of Husri, Hatri and Paban including women staged a protest demonstration outside the press club and DPO office here on Tuesday against the arrest and torture of two innocent villagers by Hatri and Husri police respectively.
Speaking at the rally, a member of Hyderabad District Council, Ms Jameela Khoso, STPP leader, Mehboob Abro, Ali Murad Jagriani and others said that Siddique Jagirani and Noor Nabi Khoso were arrested in false cases.
They accused the police of patronizing criminals and harassing poor villagers.
They demanded an impartial inquiry in the case by an honest officer and said that if the arrested men were found guilty, they should be punished otherwise action should be taken against SHO Husri police station, Gul Hassan, and ASI Aslam Khanzada of Paban police post.
They threatened to stage a series of protest demonstrations against the police if Jagirani and Khoso were not released in three days.
Meanwhile the residents of goth Darya Khan Dahri including women staged a protest demonstration and a token hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club here on Tuesday against police for providing protection to the killers of a villager, Gulsher Korejo.
Talking to newsmen, the deceased’s father, Mohammad Saleh Korejo, said that his son was killed in the jurisdiction of Oderolal police station about two months ago but the police was protecting the real accused.
He said that the murderers had registered an FIR with the police as a result innocent persons were arrested.
He alleged that the real culprits were Mohammad Sadiq son of Allah Bux Korejo, Jan Mohammad son of Singhar Panhwar, Madan Bheel and another person.
He said that the police was protecting the culprits.
He feared that though the police had arrested the accused as an eyewash, they could release them anytime.
He appealed to the Hyderabad District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, and AIG, police, Hyderabad region, for taking personal interest in the case and ensuring that the charges were framed against the real accused and the innocent persons were released.
He also alleged that the influential persons of the area were threatening him and his family with dire consequences and appealed for protection.
SRTC: The former employees of SRTC continued hunger strike outside the Hyderabad press club on the 23rd consecutive day here on Tuesday for the payment of their dues.
Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the employees action committee, Syed Ahmed Ali Shah, Ghulam Mohammad Depar, Syed Irshad Ali Shah and others said that in a meeting with the committee on March 6 and 11, Sindh Transport Minister Deewan Mohammad Yousuf had promised that the dues of the former employees would be paid in ten days.
They said that Sindh Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh had also informed the action committee leaders that the matter was discussed in the cabinet meeting on March 12 and it was decided to clear the dues of the ex-employees as soon as possible.
They, however, deplored that the employees were still waiting for the payment.
They said that if the Sindh government was sincere in resolving this problem, it should take an overdraft from the State Bank and clear the dues of the ex-employees, who had been protesting against non-payment of their dues for the last two years.
SEA: The Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA) announced here on Tuesday that the third phase of its protest movement would be begin from Wednesday and hunger strikes in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana will continue till the acceptance of the alliance’s demands.
A spokesman of the alliance, Prof Tariq Qureshi, said that a meeting of the supreme council of the alliance would be held on March 27 to chalk out future course of action.
He said that the hunger strike would continue till the reinstatement of five teachers of Sukkur, withdrawal of the decision to privatize the educational institutions and transfer orders of the teachers and show-cause notices issued to them, implementation of the decisions taken at the joint meeting of the steering committee appointed by the Sindh chief secretary and the alliance leaders and the removal of EDO (education), Sukkur, Rafia Naz Pathan.
