NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, March 24: A man, Sadiq Rind, died due to police torture at the Moro police station on Sunday.
The SHO, Moro, with a police team raided the house of Mr Sadiq in Chohan Colony, Moro, in the wee hours of Sunday. They arrested Mr Sadiq and Ali Hassan Rind and took them to the police station.
The Moro police tortured Mr Sadiq and beat him up brutally as a result of which he died at the police station.
Later, the police took his body to the Civil Hospital Moro where the doctors confirmed that Mr Sadiq was brought dead to the hospital.
While talking to newsmen, the in charge, medical superintendent, Civil Hospital Moro, Dr Roshanuddin said that Mr Sadiq died due to being tortured.
He also said that when Mr Sadiq was brought to the hospital, blood was oozing from his mouth and nostrils.
Mr Sadiq’s wife, Naseema, said that her husband was hanged upside down by the police and tortured.
After a post-mortem by the doctors, the body was handed over to his wife and other relatives.
They took his body to the Daris bypass and held a sit-in on the bypass. They raised slogans against the Moro police.
The DCO, Naushahro Feroze, Jameel Ahmed Siddiqui; the DPO, M. Dawood Junejo; and the taluka Nazim, Moro, Ahmed Nawaz Behan went to the Daris bypass and assured the protesters that an FIR would be lodged against the police officials responsible for Mr Sadiq’s death.
Talking to newsmen, Mr Sadiq’s relatives said that the police killed Mr Sadiq as they wanted Rs50,000 as bribe. When he could not give any money, they accused him of being a drug peddler. However, Mr Sadiq was not wanted in any case.
When this correspondent tried to contact the SHO, Moro police, he was not available. However, the Munshi of the police station claimed that the SHO along with a police team had arrested Mr Sadiq and Mr Ali from their house on recovering “500 grams charas from each accused”.
He further claimed, so as to be on the safe side, that Mr Sadiq was a heart patient and, while in the lockup, had complained of having a severe pain in his chest which is why he was taken to the Moro Hospital but he died on the way.
