KARACHI, March 22: A young child and a young man fell victim to reckless driving in the city on Friday.
A three-year-old boy was run over by an NLC tanker in Korangi Industrial Area. Police said Nazeer Ahmed, aged three, was travelling on a bicycle with his brother Qayyum when a speeding NLC tanker knocked them down near Bilal Mor in Korangi Industrial Area.
Nazeer fell on the road and was crushed beneath the rear wheels of the tanker, which was coming from National Refinery, a duty officer at Korangi Industrial Area police station said.
The tanker driver drove away after the accident.
Nazeer was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. His brother suffered minor injuries, police said.
A young man died in a road accident in Liaquatabad.
Police said Shardur Khan, aged 30, fell from a speeding bus of route 7-C (C-1816) near Dak Khana in Liaquatabad. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police claimed to have arrested the bus driver, Ejazuddin, and impounded the bus.
An man was crushed to death beneath the wheels a train in Malir in the morning. Police said Sarfraz, aged 56, was run over by an upcountry-bound train while walking across the railway tracks.
The body was sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.
CARJACKING: Thirteen vehicles — seven cars and six motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Friday, police said.
Four cars were hijacked. Three others were stolen.
Three motorcycles were hijacked. Three others were stolen.
Police also claimed on Friday to have recovered six vehicles (Z-9303, D-2277, KCS-7676, KCS-2702, KCC-3688 and KAJ-5150) in the city.
SUICIDE: A teenage girl who had consumed poison two days ago in her home in Orangi Town died in a hospital on Friday.
Police said Uzma, aged 14, had consumed poison two days back in her home after an argument with her parents. She was a student of class seventh.
She was admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she died.
