LAHORE, March 16: The Punjab Water Council on Saturday took exception to the statement of Mr Ansar Rajput, Federal Member, Indus River System Authority, in which he has berated Punjab’s decision to close down its canals and gift its water to Sindh.

“The statement, carried by almost all national dailies, is the most unfortunate one for its content and timing,” says a PWC member.

“Mr Rajput represents federation in the Irsa. It is totally incomprehensible and illogical for him to make a statement that smacks of parochial provincialism. The governor of Sindh is praising Punjab’s decision to contribute water to their Sindhi brothers, but Mr Rajput has chosen to term the whole affair a misnomer as the Punjab has already consumed its share,” he added.

He urged the federal government to take note of Mr Rajput’s utterances that created bad blood among provinces. — Staff Reporter
