KARACHI, March 15: The Karachi police have arrested six workers of religious organizations involved in sectarian killings during 1996-2001, said Asad Jehangir, Additional Inspector General, Karachi.
Speaking at a press conference here on Friday, he said the arrested persons are workers of defunct Sipah-Sahaba Pakistan and Lashkar-i-Jhangvi.
The alleged killers were identified as Arif Jehadi, Mohammed Ejaz alias Samiullah, Mehmood Babar alias Sabir, Zeeshan Siraj, Mohammed Imran and Roshan Raza.
They are all involved in at least 27 major incidents of sectarian killings in Karachi, including that of six doctors, Asad Jehangir said.
He said Mehmood Babar alias Sabir was involved in at least 27 murders.
The AIG said police are tracing three other wanted killers identified as Lal Mohammed, Babar and Usman Baloch. They are all residents of Karachi. He said the police recovered six TT pistols from their possession.
Referring to recent killing of doctors in Karachi, he said so far no arrest had been made in fresh killings.—APP
